Juniper Networks today introduced the new M7i and M10i router models.
The M7i router is a 2U high router with over 7 Gbit/s forwarding capacity. In addition to 4 PIC slots, it also has a built-in single gigabit ethernet port or two fast ethernet ports, as well as a built in tunnel module and optional adaptive service module, which provides NAT, stateful firewall and intrusion detection functionality. The M7i is positioned by Juniper as a replacement for the popular Cisco 7200 series.
The M10i router is slightly bigger than the M10 model, and like its predecessor provides room for 8 PICs. In contrast to the M10, though, the M10i supports redundant routing engines, a feature until now only found on the M20 and higher. Unlike the M7i, the M10i does not have any built-in interfaces or modules.
Both the M7i and M10i are compatible with most existing PICs for the M5 and M10 routers.
